Fishing tackle carts are used to transport fishing gear, be it to your boat or to the fishing site. These models are available in different styles, so you have several to choose from. If you find the number of choices overwhelming, here is a list of the features you should look for.
Important Features to Assess
The most important is space. At the very least the cart should have storage room for a few rods. Fancier models will have room for ice coolers, ice boxes, towels, tackle boxes etc.
If you travel light, you can do without some of the other features. But if you carry a lot of equipment, get carts with as much storage space as possible. Speaking of space, make sure there is enough room for the bait holding. Some units include a single tray; others have two or more. Before you buy, decide how many you will need.
Some fishing tackle carts have a built-in ruler. The ruler will be used for determining how much you were able to catch. The cart must also have space for preparing and cleaning the fish. The available cleaning space differs per model. If you work with a lot of fish, you’ll need plenty of space.
Other Issues to Consider
Some carts can carry 100 lbs of gear, while others less than that. The heavier the load it can carry, the larger the unit will be. If you carry a lot of gear, the bigger ones will be needed. If you think you’ll need more gear in the future, consider buying the larger cart.
Many carts come with peg hooks for storing various accessories. Others come with bags. These bags can be especially handy for loose and wet objects. Make sure the bag is resistant to salt water. It should have materials like specially treated steel or high-impact styrene.
Tips
It’s best if you buy foldable carts, as they are easier to work with. But even those that require assembly are usually easy to put together. The instructions will vary per package, so follow the directions. Unless specified, do not use the cart on extremely rough terrain. Only use it on surfaces it is designed to work with.
Before you buy a fishing tackle cart, take careful note of the dimensions. The dimensions specified will be if the unit is opened and / or folded. The platform size may also be specified separately.
